Replacement Windows: The Different Types
The window category is broken up into four different categories - each with specific benefits and functions.
Single Hung Windows
The most common type of window, a single hung window, has one sash that slides up and down to open. This is the simplest form of operation for replacement windows - making it easy to use with little experience or knowledge on operating your new window style! The downside is they can be difficult to clean as the bottom sash is fixed in place.
Double Hung Windows
The most common type of window, a double-hung, has two sashes that slide up and down to open. This style of replacement windows can be easier to clean with the second pane tilt inward, but you won't have as much natural lighting due to only one pane being operable.
Slider Windows
A slider window has the most natural light, as both sashes can be operated to slide up and down inside a single frame with minimal obstruction from the other pane. They are also easy to clean due to each sash sliding out of sight when opened. The downside is they take more time to open and close than other window types.
Picture Windows
A picture window is like a slider but has less opening between the two sashes, making them more challenging to use for larger items or cleaning. They also have no horizontal movement of either pane - limiting you on possible view angles when looking out your home's windows.
Window Customization Options
Andersen Windows offers multiple options for customizing your replacement windows based on style, safety, and performance. You can choose from various colors and finishes to match the existing décor in your home or even go with customized wood grain styles! One standard customization is choosing between an operable sash design that will tilt inward, allowing you to clean from the inside, or a stationary style that does not open inward, which is easier to clean from the outside.
They also offer two different styles of grids - standard and classic grids and custom color options for all hardware components such as locks, handles, hinges, and more! You can even upgrade your window's function by choosing an optional security lock or select a low-E (energy efficient) glass option.
Trim Styles
Andersen replacement windows come in various trim styles to make the exterior of your home look beautiful and maintain its style over time. The most common are traditional brick molding profiles and colonial profiles - but Andersen also offers flat panels without any millwork for those who want an even more straightforward frame style.
Colors/Shapes
Andersen replacement windows come in various colors and shapes to fit the style of your home's exterior. They also offer multiple wood frame styles, including knotty pine, cedar shake, white primed, and painted smooth options for those who want maintenance-free beauty without sacrificing features or durability. So whether you want a standard style or something more unique, Andersen has you covered!
Andersen Window Models
100 Series Windows
The 100 series offers Andersen's most affordable window, but it still delivers quality and performance. Like all of their windows, the 100 series is Energy Star certified, which means that it will keep your home comfortable year-round while saving you money on energy costs! The frames are made from anodized aluminum with high-performance glass to reduce noise levels. In addition, the 100 series is affordable; you can even get them with optional Low-E glass to improve energy efficiency and comfort.
200 Series Windows
The 200 Series offers a perfect mix of affordability and quality. These windows are made from aluminum, making them durable for many years to come while also improving the window's resistance to rot! Furthermore, the 200 series offers Andersen's most popular style: the double-hung window. This is a perfect choice if you want to let in the fresh air and enjoy beautiful views while still having privacy! The windows also come with optional Low-E glass, which further improves energy efficiency and comfort.
400 Series Windows
The 400 series is even better than Andersen's 200 series! These windows offer the same popular style as their 200 series but with even better materials. The aluminum frames are made of rust-resistant Galvalume, which means they will last longer than most standard window options on the market today - up to 50 years or more! Like Andersen's other models, this one also offers Low-E glass for energy efficiency and comfort.
Architectural Series Windows
The Architectural Series is Andersen's most expensive but highest quality window choice on the market today! This top-of-the-line product offers a lifetime warranty, energy-efficient options, environmentally friendly materials, and incredible durability for up to 100 years or more.
E-Series Windows
The E-Series is Andersen's custom-crafted window line. Working with the professionals at Andersen, builders and homeowners can create virtually any window to fit the needs of their project. Additionally, all windows built within this series include VeriLock integrated security sensors, an innovative home security feature unique to this series.
